Train gets stuck on slippery rails and disrupts passenger trains in Lancashire

Colas Railfreight Class 56 locos pass through Burnley Manchester Road

Update: to passenger services has now cleared

is advising passengers to check before travelling this morning (Friday) after a broken-down freight train is blocking a Trans-Pennine route.

The freight train has broken down in the Manchester Road area and is blocking both lines between Burnley and as well as the line to Todmorden.

Network Rail are on the scene and say that the freight train cannot move due to the slippery rails in the area.

Disruption is expected until at least 1 pm and rail replacement buses are in action.

Ticket acceptance is in place with Transpennine Express between and Manchester.
