A final reminder has been issued by that the , which carries the A10 over the railway, will be closed from 10 pm on Tuesday, 24 December, Eve to New Year’s Day, Wednesday, 1 January.

A signposted diversion will be in place for motorists travelling on the A10 between Royston and Cambridge during the closure of the Foxton level crossing.

The diversion route will direct drivers onto the A505 between Royston and Duxford, and the A1301 between Duxford and Trumpington.

Work on the crossing will include replacing the rails and the road and foot crossing decks, which have sustained heavy wear and tear over the years following various minor temporary repairs.

The decision to renew everything in the area ensures that the surfaces for trains, road vehicles and pedestrians will remain safe and reliable for many years to come.

More detailed information on the work to be undertaken at Foxton level crossing this Christmas can be found in this link to a pervious article on the Rail Advent website.

“We’re really sorry for the disruption, but we need extended access to the level crossing to get this vital job done, and the roads and railways are typically quieter in the period between Christmas and new year. Once installed, the new level crossing decks and track will serve motorists, pedestrians and rail passengers for many years to come.”

Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia
