Steam locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley to visit York this week

LNER A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is set to visit this Saturday, 16th November 2024, as it hauls The Christmas White Rose.

Departing with a diesel locomotive at 05:59, the train will pass through Luton (06:10), Bedford (06:34), Kettering (07:03), Leicester (07:38), Melton Mowbray (08:11), Oakham (08:26), (08:43) and at 09:02, where 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley joins the train.

Departing York at 09:02, the streamlined locomotive will pass through Grantham (10:10), Newark Northgate (10:25), Retford (10:44), (11:41) and York at 12:17.

After time in York, the train, diesel hauled to begin with, will depart at 16:26 and will pass through Church Fenton (16:41) on its way to Gascoigne Wood Down Loop (16:53) where the train will reverse and 60007 will lead.

After the reversal, Sir Nigel Gresley will pass through Doncaster (17:49), Retford (18:48), Newark Northgate (19:09), Grantham (19:39) and Peterborough at 20:10.

Here, diesel locomotives take over from the steam locomotive and will return to St Albans via the same outbound route, calling at Stamford (20:51), Oakham (21:10), Melton Mowbray (21:24), Leicester (21:44), Kettering (22:11), Bedford (22:42), Luton (23:13) and St Albans at 23:29.

  1. Absolutely insulting timings. This loco can average at least 70mph on the ECML.
    There’s plenty of passing loops.
    These timing above give averages will below 40mph.
