An update has been released by Network Rail after severe flooding at Northampton caused by the River Nene bursting its banks.

The line through Northampton will remain closed on Tuesday, 26th November, whilst engineers work to clean up and repair the track and equipment.

Photos from Network Rail also show some West Midlands Railway Class 730s caught up in the flood damage. We are awaiting a statement by West Midlands Railway regarding these trains.

Buses are running instead of London Northwestern Railway trains, and Avanti West Coast trains are being diverted away from Northampton.

“We’re working as quickly as we can to clean up and repair damaged rail equipment after major flooding through Northampton station following Storm Bert.

“Due to the scale of damage caused to our signalling system by the flooding, we expect the railway to remain shut throughout Tuesday 26 November and urge passengers to check with National Rail Enquiries for alternative journey options. We’re really sorry to everyone affected.”
