Construction materials company Cemex is to continue its partnership with Victa Railfreight at Dove Holes quarry in the Peak District.
The two companies have announced that they have renewed their rail terminal operations partnership at the quarry, which is in Buxton, Derbyshire.
Victa Railfreight coordinates facilities for Cemex’s rail providers to collect materials from the quarry.
The company also provides various services to customers and suppliers in the freight industry across the country.
Formed in 1995, Victa Railfreight boasts of having “constantly adapted to the evolving landscape of the rail freight industry” and claims that its product portfolio “provides a range of operational, safety and logistics services to rail freight operators and customers across the UK”.
Cemex – which supplies products including cement, readymix concrete and aggregates, asphalts, mortars and admixtures alongside pre-cast concrete products – reports this as part of the continued growth of its rail supply chain activities in the UK, which supports its global Future in Action programme.
It also highlights its commitment to sustainability, as it works towards becoming a carbon net zero business by 2050.
The company has rail transport links at twelve of its UK sites, and plans to increase this number soon.
Cemex’s UK supply chain work at its Dove Holes quarry uses rail transportation as a key part of its transportation of around three million tonnes of aggregates annually.
Once they have left the quarry, the materials are sent to depots around the country, and are used in various building, construction and infrastructure projects.
Cemex has previously worked with GB Railfreight, launching a new branded Class 66 locomotive in 2019 and set up a rail route from Doves Holes to Crawley in Surrey in 2020.
“The renewal of our rail terminal operations contract at Dove Holes is a demonstration of our continued commitment to rail as a safe, effective and more sustainable mode of transport and our partnership with Victa Railfreight is critical in the shunting, placement and planning management of our rail schedules across the wider rail network.”
Mark Grimshaw-Smith, Rail and Sea Manager for Cemex in the UK
