Commuters are advised to plan their trips in advance and allocate ample time for travel as detours to Rail Station will commence on 24 October due to the initiation of enhancement works for its amenities and adjacent road configuration.

The County Council is enhancing station accessibility by constructing a new thoroughfare that connects Tramway Road with Station Approach Road and the station’s forecourt.

Upon completion, commuters will enjoy the addition of new bus stops, cycle paths, and walkways creating shorter routes making journeys and interchanges between different modes of transport that bit quicker.

“If you use the train station, or travel along Tramway Road, please take a moment to plan ahead to avoid delays while we construct these very welcome improvements. Follow all signs and diversion routes for your own safety.

Please bear with us while we construct these improvements. When finished, the new route will make it easier to access the station and improve journey times for buses, taxis, pedestrians, and cyclists, particularly those travelling from southern Banbury and Banbury town centre.”

Councillor Judy Roberts, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Development Strategy

From 24 October 2024 to April 2025, access to the station via Tramway Road will be closed for pedestrians, cyclists, and car drop-offs due to the construction of a new footpath and road layout.

Between October and November 2024, two-way temporary traffic lights will be installed on Station Approach Road to regulate traffic.

Subsequently, a section of Station Approach Road and the west station car park will be closed starting in November, with traffic rerouted through the west station car park to ensure continued access.

The West Station car park will be completely closed starting November, while the multi-storey car park remains open. Commuters are advised to watch for early warning and diversion signs.

Changes will also be made to some pick-up and drop-off points. The upgraded station car park is scheduled for construction in the final phase of the project, with completion anticipated by September 2025.

Oxfordshire County Council has partnered with Milestone Construction Limited to carry out these enhancements, funded by the Housing and Growth Deal along with contributions from existing developers.
