The fire on the East Coast Main Line near Stevenage has now been extinguished, and Network Rail has released images of the fire and the damage it has caused.
A train driver alerted signallers to flames next to the railway at around 12:30 pm, and the emergency services were called.
A limited service is now running but major disruption is expected until the end of service today (09/10).
You can read more about the disruption by clicking here. There are still Do Not Travel warnings in place with train operators.
“We’re sorry to passengers impacted by the lineside fire at Stevenage today and the ongoing disruption this is causing while our engineers work to repair the damage.
“I’d like to thank firefighters at Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue service for their swift action to put out the fire and limit any further damage to the railway.
