14,000 Northumberland school children taught about rail safety ahead of railway line reopening

and its partners have been teaching thousands of schoolchildren how to stay safe on the new Line.

The line is set to reopen following a £298.5m project by the Department for Transport, , Northern and Northumberland County Council.

The 18-mile line runs between and and Northern has visited almost every school within a two-mile radius of the route over the last year.

Network Rail, Morgan Sindall and Northumberland County Council joined with Northern to talk about the dangers of trespassing on the line.

Northern recently announced that the maximum fare for a train trip is to be set at £3.

“It’s fantastic to see the pupils have responded so well to these sessions and many of them understand that trespassing on the railway can have devastating consequences.
