Train operator has given away 300 tickets to next Saturday’s Super League Grand Final so that young rugby fans can attend the game.

Northern is an official partner of the Super League and has given away 300 tickets so that young fans involved with amateur rugby clubs can watch Wigan Warriors play Kingston Rovers at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Among those receiving tickets are winners of the Northern Trains Community Try of the Month competition from clubs such as Warrington Girls, Thatto Heath Crusaders, Halton Hornets, York Acorn and Brotherton Bulldogs.

Other tickets have gone to players from Farnley Falcons, Shrewsbury Lions, Drighlington ARLFC, Isle Junior Rugby, New College Pontefract, Wigan St Patricks Girls, Clock Face Minors ARLFC, and Axholme Rugby Club.

Players from clubs that have received tickets came after their teams entered a competition at the beginning of the Super League season.

In total Northern gave away £ 10,000 worth of tickets, training equipment, and match kit.

For the competition, teams were invited to submit a 30-second video featuring a player or coach explaining why they love the game and footage of their best try or slickest training ground move.

Northern also donated 40 tickets so that young fans from local grassroots rugby clubs could watch last weekend’s Super League semi-finals.

To encourage people to travel by train to the final in Manchester next Saturday, Northern is selling ranger tickets for travel across Northern‘s network for just £10 per person.

At last year’s Grand Final, also held at Old Trafford in Manchester, a huge mural of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow was unveiled.

“As proud partners of Super League, we’re delighted to be able to give 300 young fans the chance to watch the final at Old Trafford.
“We’re always working with the league to support the grassroots clubs that are important to communities across the North of England.”
