The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has joined forces with Pickering Rotary Club and local charities to provide memorable days out for adults from local organisations.
On 7th, 9th, and 11th October, about 60 visitors each day from organisations including Mencap, MS Society, Next Steps and Sight Support were helped by dedicated volunteers from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Pickering Rotary Club to enjoy a memorable experience on the railway.
Accessible carriages were specially reserved for guests to travel from Pickering to Grosmont, where they were treated to refreshments and a Botham’s packed lunch that was generously part-funded by Pickering Rotary Club.
For those interested in seeing what goes on behind the scenes, small groups were treated to escorted visits to the public areas around the engine shed at Grosmont.
Visits to the engine shed were also on offer during a series of heritage open days in July.
Later this month, the railway has several special events lined up to keep families occupied during half term.
Further information about the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and how to buy tickets is online at www.nymr.co.uk.
“It was wonderful to see how the combination of the scenic journey and hands-on support from both our volunteers and the Pickering Rotary Club brought so much joy to our guests. The partnership between NYMR and Pickering Rotary Club is a shining example of community spirit and inclusivity, bringing together organisations and volunteers with the shared goal of enriching the lives of local residents.”
Michelle Baggaley, Community Engagement Manager at the NYMR
“Pickering Rotary Club are delighted to provide days out once again to many of our local charitable organisations. We would like to say a big thank you to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, as without their generous support we would not be able to offer such opportunities. The railway’s commitment to the community echoes that of the Pickering Rotary Club.
John Fields, Pickering Rotary Club
“I have received such a positive response and many messages to say how valuable such opportunities are to service users. It is always heartening to see and hear the impact such events have. As we continue to provide these special days out, we look forward to touching the lives of many more individuals in the community, spreading joy and a sense of togetherness that is truly priceless. If you would like to know more about the work that we do, please get in touch.”
“All the group had a fabulous time, the Botham’s Picnic was a real treat. Some members would never have been able to make such a journey without the help of NYMR Volunteers, Staff and the Rotary Club members. On behalf of the 20 in our group, I would like to pass on all our thanks for a wonderful day out to Grosmont.”
