The South Devon Railway has announced that it will welcome a DCRail Class 60 locomotive to its Diesel Gala in November.
Taking place on the 9th of November 2024, the diesel gala will see the Devon and Cornwall Railways (DCRail) locomotive run alongside the line’s resident home fleet.
Class 60 usually hauls HS2 trains but will take a break to put a modern twist on the preserved line.
Subject to operational requirements, it is expected that 60029 ‘Ben Nevis’ will be the specific locomotive visiting the heritage railway and will be the first time in 21 years that this Class 60 has hauled a passenger train, and its first-ever visit to a heritage railway.
Tickets for the event are on sale now, including early-bird saver tickets which are only available to purchase until 2nd November.
Other locomotives in action will be a Class 04, Class 25 and Class 33.
‘The South Devon Railway plays an important role in preserving the railway heritage of Devon and through DCRail we are very pleased to be able to support the Diesel Gala.
David Fletcher, Group Rail Director at Cappagh
“We are delighted to be able to welcome the first ever Class 60 to the SDR, providing a unique opportunity for passengers to travel behind this locomotive.
