The Assembly Transport Committee have made calls to amend the Public Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill 2024-25 to allow to appoint a public sector operator to run services into and within London.

A letter has been sent to the Minister for Rail, Lord Hendy.

The Transport Committee has also written to the Mayor of London to recommend that Transport for London should have the power to appoint an operator for the and .

“The London Assembly has long backed further devolution of transport services in London, and the evidence the Committee heard in its investigation further supported that view.

“The Committee recognises that any further devolution would raise complex and important questions around the governance and systems for ensuring accountability in rail services.

  1. So how comes that TfL wants 10 more Class 345 trains as HS2 is now to extend to London Euston and HS2 will be terminating at London Euston instead of terminating at Old Oak Common. The Elizabeth Line doesn’t need any more trains as it’s already got enough rolling stock to cover the entire Elizabeth Line since 70 Class 345 9-Car trains were ordered and all of them are now in service. Why need 10 more Class 345s to increase the capacity to 80 trains. Plus with 24tph now operating through Central London since it first became operational in May 2022.

  2. TFL in charge? What could possibly go wrong? So EL workers could all strike at the same time as the Underground and bring London to a standstill….
