Train services on the Great Eastern Main Line will be disrupted on Sundays until the beginning of November because of construction work at the new Beaulieu Park station being built in Chelmsford.
During recent months, steady progress has been made with the new station, including completing the station building structure, which has a wooden laminated roof that provides a visually striking environment for passengers.
The main station footbridge that connects the station building to the island platform was installed in May, and is to have lifts installed to provide step-free access.
The platform structures also have partial canopies to provide passengers with protection against the elements.
The railway infrastructure has also seen major work, with an upgrade of the overhead power lines, new track, and updated signalling, power systems, telecoms, and ancillary. That work is set to continue and will affect train services on the following dates:
Saturday, 7 and Sundays, 8 September, 6 and 13 October, and 3 November
- Buses replace trains between Witham and Ingatestone.
Sunday, 22 September
- Buses replace trains between Witham and Ingatestone and between Witham and Braintree.
Sunday, 29 September
- Buses replace trains between Witham/Southend Victoria and Newbury Park tube station, and between Southminster and Wickford.
Passengers intending to travel on the affected dates should check with National Rail Enquiries or Greater Anglia before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys, as they may include a rail-replacement bus service.
All the critical infrastructure and railway system upgrades for Beaulieu Park station are scheduled to be completed by Christmas 2024.
During the following months, the remaining station elements such as internal fit-out, station systems, car parks, lighting, and landscaping, will be completed and ready for opening the station to passengers by the end of 2025.
“We’re cracking on with building the new station at Beaulieu Park on behalf of Essex County Council alongside our principle contractor, Murphy.

“Work is well underway to build the new Beaulieu Park railway station, which will hugely benefit people in Essex.

I think that platform 1 will be used for trains coming to & from Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, Ipswich, Braintree and Norwich. Platform 2 will be used for a train terminating at Beaulieu Park coming from London Liverpool Street. And platform 3 will be used for trains heading from London Liverpool Street to Braintree, Ipswich, Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea and Norwich. Hence why there will be 3 platforms at Beaulieu Park railway station.
Will I be able to get straight through to Braintree from Stratford on Saturday 14th September 2024?
