In 5 days time, the Virgin Bet Gold Cup Festival will begin, and is adding extra trains for those heading to Scotland for the festival.

Running from the 19th until the 21st of September, the Ayr Gold Cup will mean that services will be busier than usual with an expected 10,000 people expected to use the train to get to the Ayrshire town for the final day of the meeting.

Ayr is the nearest station to the racecourse and is around a 10-minute walk to the event.

Meanwhile, with spirits expecting to run high, ScotRail has reminded passengers that alcohol is prohibited on trains and at stations.

“ScotRail is looking forward to helping make the Ayr Gold Cup Festival a success. We know the meeting has a special place in the hearts of Scottish racegoers, so we’ll will be doing all we can to help customers get to and from the track as efficiently and comfortably as possible.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director
