More than 500 East Midlands Railway customers have already made use of a new type of ticket that gives discounts of up to 50 percent on regular advance tickets.
The discounted fares, referred to as ‘Secret Fares’, are available exclusively through the online ticket platform Seatfrog.
Passengers choose their route, date and time of day (morning, afternoon or evening), but do not find out the exact departure time of their train until they are emailed their ticket by Seatfrog 24 hours in advance of departure.
This unique type of ticket is therefore aimed at those who have flexible plans.
The ‘Secret Fares’ scheme was launched by East Midlands Railway in June of this year, and the tickets can be purchased between 3 months and 2 days prior to the day of travel.
‘Secret Fares’ are available starting from the below prices:
- Sheffield <> London from £16
- Nottingham <> London from £12
- Derby <> London from £12
- Liverpool <> Sheffield from £7
- Liverpool <> Nottingham from £10
- Nottingham <> Norwich from £16
East Midlands Railway reports that over 500 passengers have already benefitted from the special discounted fares offered exclusively through Seatfrog.
The ‘Secret Fares’ are one of a number of EMR initiatives to reduce ticket prices for passengers.
This summer the operator launched advance fares on its Lincoln to Nottingham route, and it also ran a summer sale with heavily-discounted tickets available on routes across its network.
Customers looking to snap up one of the reduced-price ‘Secret Fares’ can do so either on the Seatfrog app or by visiting the dedicated website.
Secret Fare is all about making it even easier to find a great fare and so far more than 500 of our customers have taken advantage.
It’s perfect for those with flexible schedules. Whether you’re planning a spontaneous getaway or looking for a budget-friendly way to visit family and friends, Secret Fare provides a simple, efficient way to travel.

SeatFrog tickets are scams, and for EMR to be selling tickets uniquely through a single retailer that are not freely available through other retailers goes against the entire ethos of impartial retailing. The whole thing stinks, and it needs to be stopped.
