Certain platforms at Manchester Piccadilly will be temporally inaccessible to the public as engineers proceed with the installation of new netting on the station’s renowned glass roof.

The netting serves as an additional safety measure, which, when installed, will catch any debris that might fall from the roof.

The fifth phase of the roofing project starts this weekend, spanning from the 7th to the 29th of September 2024, resulting in the closure of platforms 5 and 6.

The ongoing work, which started in June and is expected to last until October, is progressing in stages to minimize disruption for passengers. It is scheduled to last until October.

Throughout this period, certain platforms will be out of service, and trains will be rerouted to different platforms. Passengers should verify their journey details before traveling.

During platform closures, additional measures to enhance passenger experience and safety will be implemented.

These improvements encompass tasks such as repainting the white lines on platform edges. In addition to the platform closures, track maintenance will be undertaken next to the platforms, which will save time and prevent future disruptions.

This is one of many projects being undertaken in and around the Manchester area by Network rail this year.

So far, Manchester Oxford Road has seen a £2.7m upgrade, a railway bridge over the M62 Motorway is currently being replaced, & the line between Wigan and Bolton is closed for 10 days for electrification installation.
