is warning locals near the to take extra care with more trains now running on the line.

Driver training is well underway which means the line is far busier than any time in the last 50 years.

The work is part of a near-£300m project to reconnect those living in South East with the rail network.

It is expected that trains will start running on the line in December 2024.

“While beginning driver training is a key achievement in the Northumberland Line project, we would like to remind level crossing users to stop, look and listen and to check both ways before crossing.

“Safety is our number one priority and the trains running along the route are faster and more frequent, so do not stop when you are on the crossing. We have been delivering sessions to local schools to remind students of the dangers of the railway and the potential consequences of trespassing.”

Paul Bennett, Network Rail’s North and East route head of safety, health and environment

  1. The footpath been put in at Bebside are the contractors going for a world record for slowest ever construction of a footpath! In about 6 weeks it looks like no progress has been made on the path except a few coping stones laid! Will it be finished by summer 2025? Mark!
