Greater Anglia has introduced new Ranger tickets for use on the ‘Mayflower’ and ‘Sunshine Coast’ branch lines in Essex.
The tickets were launched yesterday, Sunday 15th September.
They offer great value, as they provide holders with unlimited travel at off-peak times on either the Mayflower Line or Sunshine Coast Line. An advantage is that holders can use them to travel between different places along the line hopping on and off all day.
Introduced through working alongside the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, Greater Anglia’s new ‘Ranger’ tickets are available for the ‘Mayflower Line’ between Manningtree and Harwich and the ‘Sunshine Coast’ line between Colchester and Clacton on Sea / Walton-on-the-Naze.
Greater Anglia hopes that the tickets will encourage more people to travel by rail as they will be especially attractive to both tourists and local people looking to save on travel costs.
Ticket costs
- Mayflower Line Ranger tickets cost £11 for adults, £5.50 for children, and £22 for a family ticket.
- Sunshine Coast Line Ranger costs £12.50 for adults, £6.25 for children, and £25 for a family ticket.
- Railcards are valid for use with both Ranger tickets to provide even greater discounts, and normal refund rules apply.

Greater Anglia has a policy of encouraging rail travel by often offering suggestions for days out, including Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
“We are delighted that Ranger tickets have arrived for these routes in Essex.
Jayne Summer, Rail Engagement Manager for the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership
“They offer such great value and with so many wonderful destinations and attractions easily accessible by rail on both lines, we hope they will encourage people to leave the car at home and explore our wonderful county by train.”
“They offer a new, more flexible way to travel by train and work out at great value to benefit local people, day trippers and tourists alike. If they prove successful, this is something we could consider for other branch lines in Essex in the future.”
Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager
