Lines reopen after tree blocks major rail route into Scotland

and trains are running again after a tree blocked the yesterday (26th September).

The tree fell onto overhead wires between Lockerbie and Carstairs, meaning that most services running north of were cancelled at either Preston or Carlisle.

staff were on site well into the night repairing the overhead wires that had been damaged by the fallen tree.

Both operators have said that tickets for travel yesterday are valid for any service today (27th September).

Passengers are being advised by Avanti West Coast to ‘expect alterations’ due to multiple incidents on the network.

They say that trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes until 9 am whilst trains get into position.

  1. Perhaps the regulatory might like to ask Avanti why they made the situation worse for passengers by terminating trains from the south at Preston rather than Carlisle .. A much shorter ride then needed on the replacement bus
