Amey has successfully secured additional work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade West Alliance (TRUWest) project, clinching £800 million from the £2 billion contract award.
The forthcoming phase of the TRUWest project will encompass a variety of multidisciplinary railway improvements between Huddersfield and Leeds, revolutionizing travel by offering more frequent, dependable, and environmentally friendly transportation options in the North.
In collaboration with Amey’s principal partners – Arup, BAM, and Network Rail – the TRUWest Alliance is set to enhance six stations by upgrading facilities and access.
Additionally, they will construct nine bridges and a viaduct to realign, electrify, or expand the number of tracks for more efficient, frequent electric train services.
A new railway siding is planned for Huddersfield, facilitating major upgrades at its station. Signalling improvements over a 28-mile stretch will bolster reliability and minimize delays.
Expanding the track count from two to four between Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe will cut travel times and alleviate congestion.
The deployment of overhead line equipment (OLE) will contribute to lowering the UK’s carbon emissions and enhancing air quality, while new tracks and improved drainage are set to boost line speeds and service dependability.
“This is a major achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment from all members of the West Alliance. We recognise the significance of the largest single contract by value that Network Rail has awarded and take that responsibility very seriously. I would like to thank all those involved in getting us to this point and look forward to celebrating our continued success as a key part of the TRU programme.”
Peter Sollitt, TRU West Alliance Managing Director
