Over the forthcoming August bank holiday weekend from Saturday, 24th to Monday 26th August, the Bluebell Railway is holding ‘’The Brighton Works’ weekend as a commemoration of locomotives associated with Brighton Works.
The highlight of the weekend will be the introduction into service of the latest addition to Britain’s steam locomotives, the newly built H2 Class 4-4-2 Atlantic No. 32424 Beachy Head, the original of which was withdrawn and scrapped in 1958.
A special visitor will be Standard Class 4 2-6-4 tank engine No. 80151, which will be running in the guise of 80154, the last locomotive to be outshopped from Brighton works in 1957.
Running alongside Beachy Head and 80154 will be Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Pacific No. 34059 Sir Archibald Sinclair, which was built at Brighton ten years before 80154 in 1947.
Little and large is the comparison between Sir Archibald Sinclair and the diminutive Stroudley Terrier No. 72 Fenchurch ,which was built in 1872.
