London Overground has installed water refill at six more stations to add to the 22 already installed at stations on its network.

The new fountains add to the 22 already installed and can be found at Bethnal Green, Bush Hill Park, Chingford, Gospel Oak, Highams Park and Homerton stations, and it is hoped they will help customers reduce the use of single-use plastic and save money.

Transport for London advises that passengers should carry water when using public transport, especially during the summer months, and the new drinking fountains will make it even easier for them to fill their bottles and stay cool while travelling.

On average, Londoners buy more than three plastic water bottles every week, or around 175 bottles a year.

The new drinking fountains aim to bring this number down by encouraging customers to use their own refillable bottles.

To help find the nearest drinking fountain, Transport for London has published an online map showing details of fountain locations at London Overground stations and nearby.

The new fountains contribute to how the city’s mayor is encouraging Londoners to adopt small changes that can have a big environmental impact, such as using refillable bottles instead of needlessly buying single-use ones.

As well as the new water fountains on the London Overground, London’s City Hall has partnered with Thames Water to install over 100 water fountains in busy and accessible areas of the city

Access to drinking water in public spaces has also been improved through the Refill London scheme.

That is a scheme designed to make it easier for residents and visitors to refill on the go by encouraging restaurants, cafes, and businesses to offer free refills and water fountains.

The national rail network also has a programme to install water points at stations across the network, including at Euston and Leeds.

We know how important it is for Londoners to stay hydrated and cool on our network, but I m also determined to reduce our citys use of single-use plastic. That’s why we re installing these additional water fountains, along with a helpful map for Londoners to find their nearest fountain, as we continue to build a better, greener London for everyone.
