The has secured the services of No. D7628 Sybilla as a visitor for its Autumn Diesel Bash in October.

The Autumn Diesel Bash to be held from Thursday, 3rd to Sunday, 6th October will see D7628 appear alongside classmate No. 25262 visiting from the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh and locomotives from the Severn Valley Railway’s home fleet.

Owned by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, D7628 usually operates trains on the Esk Valley to Whitby, and was one of the stars at this year’s North Yorkshire Moors Diesel Gala.

Built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester as part of the British Railways’ Modernisation Plan in the 1950s, D7628 entered service at Tinsley in Sheffield in October 1965.

It later moved to Wath before being transferred to the London Midland Region in 1967, by which time had been numbered 25278.

It was the last of Class 25 to receive a general overhaul at Derby, in 1981, and was officially withdrawn on 15 March 1987.

The Autumn Diesel Bash features a busy timetable and attracts visitors from all over the country.

Single and multi-day rover tickets are on sale now via the website at svr.co.uk starting at £38 for adults and £25 for children aged 4-17 and members, £61/£41.40 for a two-day Rover, £85.50/£58 for three-day Rover, and £110/£73.50 for a four-day Rover.

We’re extremely grateful to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for agreeing to D7628’s appearance.

Securing this locomotive is quite a ‘coup’ as it is very rarely seen away from the NYMR and we are very pleased to be hosting it.

Jonathan ‘Gus’ Dunster, Severn Valley Railway managing director.
