Network Rail awards VolkerRail its first major contract in Scotland

As part of a £1.3bn framework contract, has awarded its first major contract for work on ‘s Railway.

The contract is part of a new Scotland Civils Framework (SCF), an agreement between Network Rail and contractors.

VolkerRail’s contract is for £150m of , power, and communications work.

Included in the contract are buildings, civils, structures, earthworks, drainage, renewals, and enhancement projects throughout Scotland.

Other contracts have been awarded by Network Rail to the following contractors:

  • Taziker Industrial, for up £150m of minor civil works.
  • AmcoGiffen and STORY for up to £730m of building and civil works.
  • QTS for up to £420m of geotechnical and minor civil works.

Each contract is for five years, with an optional three-year extension based on performance.

VolkerRail is also involved with a £4bn digital signalling contract in Yorkshire, and East West Rail between Oxford and Cambridge.

Liam Sumpter, managing director, , said:

We’re investing up to £1.3bn in these framework contracts to maintain and improve our infrastructure across Scotland.

The awarding of these contracts will help us continue to deliver a railway that is safe and reliable for passengers and freight.

We’re excited to once again be partnering with Taziker, AmcoGiffen, STORY and QTS and we’re looking forward to welcoming VolkerRail on to Scotland’s Railway family.
