The British Transport Police has released a CCTV image after man entered a train at Preston station and tried to turn off the brakes.
At around 3:20am on the 27th July 2024, the man entered the drivers cab of a stationary train at Preston and began moving the controls, including turning the electricity off on the train and attempting to release the brakes.
Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help their investigation.
Anyone who recognises him, or has any other information, is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 80 of 27/07/24.

How drunk must you be to try and drive a train home!.
There are videos on YouTube of these kids who have got hold of a T key and let themselves in the cabs at stations then start messing with controls. It seems to be some kind of thing with young train enthusiasts now.
Driver cab unsecured or not, how secure are they and was there a fault on the door.

How typical, let’s blame the worker and not the score whos out to cause carnage and endanger life.
Doesn’t say what type of train it is, sometimes units are stabled overnight and they are cleaned meaning the doors are open, including the driving cab. So to automatically blame the driver is premature, not sure L/H trains now work but units need a master key in the desk to release the brake in the cab

My comment was not made to assume that the driver was at fault or even suggests he/ she was. Clearly the idiot who entered the above and messed about with the controls is the controls is the person ( ridiculously) at fault. Unfortunately, these days the authorities have to take on board the involvement of such people. Rember the train units that had there jump leads redesigned because of the threat of idiots climbing up them.
Why did the driver leave the cab unlocked.? Has there been any enquiry about that?
