Kernow Model Railway Centre has announced exclusive Graham Farish N Gauge Mk3 and Mk2b Royal Train coach packs in Royal Claret livery.

At present the current Royal Train formation is made up of seven Mk 3 coaches, with two former BR Mk 2b Brake Corridor Firsts that provide sleeping accommodation for staff, one of these coaches is also fitted with a generator which supplies’ independent power to the train.

The consist of the Royal Train varies depending on the nature of the duties that it is undertaking, this includes who is on board and the type of journey, with such variations to the duties, there are instances that not all the coaches will be in the train formation on every service.

Each vehicle in the Royal Train fleet is distinct, and two have been re-designated following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Mk3 2903, previously known as HM The Queen’s Saloon, is now referred to as HM The King’s Saloon. Similarly, Mk3 2904, formerly HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s Saloon, has been renamed HM The Queen Consort’s Saloon.

DB Cargo supplies the motive power and operates the Royal train when it runs on the national network.

The train is maintained at Wolverton Works in Buckinghamshire, which has had ties with the Royal Train maintenance and carriage construction dating back as far as 1842.
