Fares for the new Northumberland Line have been announced by Northern, ensuring passengers have a range of affordable options.
Later this summer, trains will resume on the Northumberland Line for the first time since 1964 and Northern says passengers will pay no more than £3 for a single journey along the entire route.
Thanks to the project, which has involved the Department for Transport, Northern, Network Rail and Northumberland County Council, services will call at Ashington, Newsham, Seaton Delaval, Manors and Newcastle, with a run along the route taking around 35 minutes.
Due to open to passengers next year are Bedlington, Blyth Bebside and Northumberland Park.
A new pricing structure will mean that passengers can buy a single ticket for half the price of a return, meaning a run from Ashington to Newcastle will cost £3 (return £6). An off-peak single will cost £2.60 with a return costing £5.20.
Off-peak tickets will cost from just £1.20 for a single journey (Ashington – Newsham), whilst Seaton Delaval to Newcastle will cost just £2.
Full details will be released on the Northern Website in due course.
“We’re proud to be offering affordable fares to people who will use our services to get to school, work and leisure activities.
“This is a transformational project that will connect communities across south east Northumberland, providing thousands of people who are fed up of sitting in traffic with a fast and great value alternative.
