The East Lancashire Railway has welcomed a new locomotive to its Bury Transport Museum in the form of Lanky Tank 1008 which is on long-term loan from The National Rail Museum.
This joins other National Rail Museum-owned locomotives narrow-gauge ‘Wren’, ‘Tilbury Tank’ 2500; L & Y Dray, and the recent addition of ‘Vesta’ from the National Trust, who, along with 1008 are all a part of the National Collection.
The East Lancashire Railway hopes to later in the year organise an open day for all these locomotives to be exhibited in an outdoor Line-Up for all to see and admire these historic steam locomotives.
Tickets to the Bury Transport Museum can be either purchased online on their website or on the day upon arrival and are valid for 12 months as long as Gift Aid is selected.

This was honestly some of the most gutting news I’ve received this year. No. 1008 was one of my favourite exhibits still left at the NRM, and I felt a somewhat personal connection with the Class 5 as it worked at the town I grew up in (even if it was many years before I was born). I was praying that it would stay, but unfortunately after months of trying to hope, it’s gone. Just another empty spot in York’s once loco-packed great hall.
