The RMT Union has announced that staff at both Caledonian Sleeper and ScotRail will be balloted for strike action.
Negotiations over pay have been ongoing, but the RMT says that the operators have both tabled well below inflation offers that did not reward members.
The union is balloting for both strike action and action short of a strike in the form of an overtime ban.
The ballot will open on the 18th July and will close on the 8th August.

Nothing to do with Labour Government this in fact responsibility of Scottish Government through Transport Scotland as transport is a devolved and these TOCs are publicly owned.
We are approaching a scenario whereby there will be no point having a railway.As taxpayers and rail travellers, we might as well have no rail service.The strike will be particularly destructive for the sleeper service, having limited passengers, who once let down, will probably not use the service again.Presumably, the strikers in Scotland will be aiming to get new Westminster Government to stump and bail out Scottish Government and ScotRail.
In the North of England we have the Northern Rail ASLEF overtime ban . Surely it is possible to have a rest day system which has rotas that have rest days not dependent on Sundays ( unless rest day happens to fall then).Once again, the taxpayers and rail passengers are being held to ransom.
John, you beat me to the mark I’m now looking forward to the unions stepping up to the table and dictating more of what the government (For government read union) will be doing. The junior doctors are already booking luxury holidays. We get what we voted for , assuming you were that silly.
Here we go – first strike to see if Labour will instantly cave-in to Union demands.
