London Overground and Greater Anglia / Stansted Express trains are to be affected by a 16 day closure of the railway on the Chingford Line.

The work is set to start this Saturday (20th July) and run until the 4th August.

No London Overgroudn trains will run between Hackney Downs and Chingford, whilst there will be changes to Greater Anglia / Stansted Express trains between London – Hertford East, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.

The closure will allow Network Rail to replace a 150-year-old bridge in Hackney that carries the junction of Downs Park Road and Bodney Road.

Over the 16 day closure, engineers will demolish the old structure and begin to build the new one.

Whilst the closure is in place, Network Rail is planning to complete railway maintenance on the line, including work to track, overhead wires and signalling equipment.

Passengers are asked to check with their operator for the latest travel advice.

“Thousands of people travel under and over this bridge every day by rail and road, and our project is vital to keeping their future journeys safe and reliable. We’re sorry for the disruption this summer but we’ll be working flat out to deliver a replacement bridge that will serve the community for generations to come.”

Simon Milburn, Network Rail Anglia infrastructure director
