From this Saturday (13 July) it’s just £2 return from Headbolt Lane, Kirkby and Fazakerley stations to Moorfields or Central.

Mayor Rotheram has taken steps to decrease the cost of public transport for those commuting within the Liverpool city region.

This move is one of them, as is the freezing of rail prices on services for six months.

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has announced this exclusive offer, available to all new and returning customers.

It is a goodwill gesture to thank them for their patience during recent teething issues in the rollout of the new train fleet.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has funded this ticket offering from funds recovered from the train manufacturer,

The Liverpool Combined Authority has collaborated with Stadler, Merseyrail, and Network Rail to enhance the availability and performance of the new trains.

Recently, the trains have resumed a four-trains-an-hour service on the Headbolt Lane line. The line’s performance level has also improved, with last week’s level of over 94% coming in among the best on the network.

Headbolt Lane is the newest station on the Merseyrail network with services provided by the battery-powered trains from the Liverpool City Region’s new publicly owned fleet.

In the coming years, the Combined Authority plans to build four new stations at Liverpool Baltic, Daresbury, Woodchurch, and Carr Mill.

Headbolt Lane Station opened in October 2023.

While I cannot undo the disruption that passengers have already faced, I hope this gesture demonstrates our appreciation for their patience and understanding. As promised, the performance of the trains has been much better of late and should only continue to improve, offering the world class service local people deserve for years to come.

I’m really proud of the work I’ve done to improve and expand the local transport network. We’ve frozen bus and rail fares, taken back control of our buses, rolled out the country’s best local trains, and opened two new train stations with four more to follow. We are well on the way in our journey to building the most comprehensive integrated transport network anywhere outside of London.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region
