Yorkshire passengers advised of weekday rail upgrades

From Monday 24 June to Saturday 20 July, major upgrades will affect weekday services between Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds.

The work is part of the (TRU) and includes track renewals, surveys, drainage, signal verifications, and construction work.

The TransPennine Route Upgrade is a major programme of rail upgrades between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. Investment for the TransPennine Route Upgrade exceeds £9.bn.

Weekend services remain unchanged, but encourages passengers to plan ahead if they need to travel between Huddersfield and Leeds during the week. They can check nationalrail.co.uk to plan their journey.

Wherever possible, diversionary routes and rail replacement bus services will keep passengers on the move.

Network Rail has supplied the following details:

 train services between Huddersfield and Leeds will be diverted and will not call at Dewsbury. The Saltburn to service will start/terminate at Manchester Victoria instead of Manchester Airport.

The train operator will run peak-time and evening local services between Manchester Piccadilly and Leeds only between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield.

Direct rail replacement buses will run between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Leeds. All-stations rail replacement buses will operate between Huddersfield and Leeds, making stops at Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley, and Cottingley.

Rail replacement buses will run between Manchester Airport and Huddersfield, calling at Stockport.

will divert train services between Wigan and Leeds via Halifax and Bradford Interchange, and they will not stop at Brighouse, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Batley or Morley.

The TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) thanked passengers for their patience during five days of disruption in February.

  1. What is the point of promoting a service to Manchester Airport when you need to change to a bus at Huddersfield? It’s peak holiday travel time. Manchester Piccadilly is not change friendly for the airport. Is there space for the Saltburn service to run Stalybridge, Piccadilly, Airport?

  2. There is no longer any “enthusiasm” in the railway “management” to mitigate for disruption, by diversionary routes or even buses. The buses comment is aimed at operators, notably Avanti, who appeared not motivated to even use substitute buses or have any contingency for failures.There is still scope for diversions, if the railway can be bothered.
    As correspondent “Diane” says who the hell is bothered and who is responsible.
    An incoming Labour Government ( or any other Government) will struggle and , probably, kick the problems up the road once more.For example, it is easy to say “we will sort out the fares” but how?
    It is always the how that defeats the policians.

  3. This on going upgrade between huddersfield to leeds is now becoming ridiculous.
    Less and less people are interested in getting on a train. Prices for tickets continue to go up.
    In the end what is it all for, passengers have had enough and can no longer sustain the nightmare of getting to work.
    To put it bluntly in another 60 years somebody will probably do the same as Beeching did in the 60’s and close all the stations and rip up the tracks.
    This country has really lost its way.

  4. The extension of the single track from Hadfield to Penistone relieves congestion on the transpennine route through Huddersfield and provides a convenient route from Sheffield to Manchester.
