Welsh heritage railways extend local residents’ offer throughout June

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are to continue offering a discount to local residents throughout June.

Acknowledging how popular the discount offer has been, the Railway is also extending it to a wider variety of train services.

The Railways, which last month launched a new visitor app, carry passengers around the Snowdonia area of north Wales.

The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest narrow-gauge railway in the world, with almost two centuries of history, and runs for thirteen-and-a-half miles from Porthmadog harbour to the slate-quarrying town of .

The Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway, running for twenty-five miles from , passing the foot of Mount and the village of Beddgelert, through the Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog.

The fifty per cent discount applies to the whole family, and is for people who live in postcode areas LL22 to LL78 inclusive.

This discount applies on these following trains:

  • Woodland Wanderer (Porthmadog to return)
  • Mountain Spirit (Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog return) – 14:20 departure only
  • The Quarryman (Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog return)
  • The Aberglaslyn (Porthmadog to Beddgelert return)
  • Gelert Explorer (Caernarfon to Beddgelert return)
  • Snowdonia Star (Caernarfon to Porthmadog return)

To receive the discount, local resident use voucher code JUNE50 when buying tickets, which they can do online, over the phone, at one of the Railway’s booking offices, or from the guard on a train. They will need to show proof of their address (for example, a driving licence) at the check-in desk on their day of travel.

The Discount offer only applies to tickets, and does not include refreshments or guidebooks. The code does not apply on train services after June 2024, or on train services other than those listed above.
