On Monday 10th June, Railway Children staff spent the day thanking supporters for helping vulnerable children.
Now an annual event in the Railway Children calendar, the “Thankathon” underlines the valuable work of all the charity‘s supporters, and reaches out to them with messages of pure thanks.
Whether making phone calls, writing letters and cards, or sending emails, Railway Children workers did their utmost to show the value of all supporters and underline their role in the Railway Children family.
Railway Children operates across the UK, India and Tanzania.
Its principal goal is to help and show children how to live safe and fruitful lives away from the streets. Thanks to the untiring efforts of their supporters, the Railway Children have been able to return thousands of children in these countries back to their families, in possession of quality education and skills.
And to make life better and safer for many more children still exposed to the cruelty of the streets.
The organisation has also achieved landmark policy changes across all three countries to better protect street-connected children.
For example, they have trained UK Transport Police and rail staff to identify vulnerable children and keep them safe.
The Railway Children set up safety nets across major transport networks that identify children at risk quickly and so get them to safety sooner.
Their unique partnerships with transport operators and the transport community make this possible.
Founder David Maidment established the organisation under the Iconic Waterloo station clock in 1995.
The organisation can only keep helping children at risk thanks to the continued commitment of its volunteers and supporters.
Last September, the Railway Children invited the public to walk the London Metropolitan Line to raise funds.
The Railway Children often receive generous donations from rail operators.
The thankathon is a brilliant opportunity to thank all our supporters, whether they are donors, volunteers, train companies, BTP champions, SAG members or event participants. The work of Railway Children is only possible because of them, and thousands of children are living safer, happier lives as a result.
