Transport for Greater Manchester is urging people to use public transport when travelling to the Parklife festival in the city’s Heaton Park this weekend.
Festival organisers expect tens of thousands of music fans to attend on Saturday and Sunday (8 and 9 June), where headline acts include Becky Hill, Disclosure and Doja Cat.
As it has in previous years, the transport authority is providing advice on travel.
It is strongly recommending that passengers use public transport, plan in advance and allow plenty of time to make their journeys.
The Bee Network app and the website will provide up-to-date information before the event, and throughout the weekend.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) recommends the city’s tram network as the best way to travel to Parklife, pointing out that services connect directly with the city centre and provide easy access to 99 stops across Greater Manchester.

People can travel to the festival from any of the city centre tram stops (Zone 1) to Heaton Park or Bowker Vale stops, which are both a few minutes away from the festival gate.
Services will run every six minutes from the city centre. When returning to the city centre from the festival, passengers will need to use Bowker Vale tram stop, as the Heaton Park stop will be closed to prevent safety problems.
Shuttle buses will run between Aytoun Street (in Manchester city centre) and Heaton Park, starting at 10am on Saturday and finishing at 11am on Sunday.
The last bus will leave at 4.30pm on both days. Buses will run back into Manchester from the early evening until the festival site is clear.
TfGM has issued a new Parklife travel ticket, which covers tram and shuttlebus travel from the city centre on one ticket.
These tickets are available on the Bee Network app, and cost:
- Saturday only: £5.50
- Sunday only: £5.50
- Weekend ticket – both days – £11.
Passsengers travelling in the Prestwich area will be affected by the festival traffic, even if they are not attending Parklife themselves.
TfGM is advising them to plan their journeys in advance and try to travel at quieter times (in the morning or between 4pm and 8pm) or take a different route.
Other big events taking place over the weekend include the Eagles and Pet Shop Boys at Co-op Live, and comedian Romesh Ranganathan at the AO Arena.
The final stage of the Women’s Tour of Britain cycling race also takes place across Greater Manchester on Sunday. TfGM is urging people travelling to the event from outside Greater Manchester to check its Women’s Tour of Britain information before travelling to avoid local delays.
Parklife is the first of a summer of big events in Greater Manchester, with others including big name acts appearing at AO Arena, Wythenshawe Park, Old Trafford cricket ground, and the troubled Co-op Live.
