The is taking a spin on the usual kids for quid travel option normally put on offer at many heritage railways across the country.

The railway has altered the offer so that dads can travel for just £1 on Father’s Day on Sunday 16 June.

In order to qualify for the ‘Dads for a Quid’ deal, fathers must be accompanied by a paying child of any age, even if they are grown up but still young at heart.

This offer makes a great saving on the usual price of a standard adult ticket.

Ticket Options:

  • Children aged 3-15: Must purchase a Children’s Day Runabout Ticket.
  • Children aged 15+: Must purchase an Adult Day Runabout Ticket.

The Great Central Railway is 8 miles long and is the only standard gauge heritage mainline railway in the country, because of this, trains can pass in between stations on the double track lines offering great opportunities to see heritage trains in passing just like they used to on the national railway network of the past.

There will be several trains in operation on June 16, including steam and diesel services on passenger trains.

A goods train will also be in operation along with shuttle services on the Mountsorrel Branch. There is also a dining train (which is reserved for pre-booked ticket holders only).

In-between the trains, the cafes and tearooms will also be open at each of the stations along the line, providing hot drinks and snacks throughout the day at Loughborough, Quorn & Woodhouse, & Leicester North.

Attending the Great Central Railway, this Father’s Day guarantees a memorial day for all those who choose to go.

“What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a day full of big boys’ toys! This is the first time we’ve offered Dads the opportunity to go for a Quid and we’re really excited to welcome families and their Father Figures to experience all that the Great Central Railway has to offer. All the family are welcome to come and join Dad, even the family dog, so why not come down and join the fun.”
