Celebrate this Father’s Day in the Yorkshire Dales

As is tradition, the third Sunday of June is Father’s Day, which this year is on the 16th of June.

As is prevalent with many things happening across the country, the heritage railways and railtour companies also cater to all those families who have a father who has an interest in railways, and want to treat their dad to a great day out.

For those who are still deciding what would be the best gift to give their father this year, the has a fantastic offer.

Why not have lunch on board a heritage train while you take in the splendour of the Dales.

The special Father’s Day Lunch train will be departing from station at 12pm and will be diesel hauled using a rake of heritage rolling stock.

Tickets have been kept at last year’s prices, and with the excellent menu on offer this truly is value for money and an ideal way to spend Father’s Day.

At a cost of £45 per person, passengers will be treated to a two hour ten minute, 44 mile round trip of the Wensleydale Railway.

Upon arrival at Leeming Bar station, guests will enjoy a complementary glass of prosecco or orange juice.

Once on board, the stewards will serve the first round of refillable tea and coffee to be enjoyed from the crafted fine China set out on the table.

This will be followed with freshly prepared sandwiches or a selection of savouries. Passengers can admire the views from the windows as the food and drink are brought to them at their table.

The menu includes:

  • Farmhouse Bloomer Ham and mature Cheddar Cheese & Whole Grain Mustard Mayonnaise
  • Wedges of Local Sweet Chilli Pork Pie
  • Mini Lamb & Bombay Vegetable Samosa
  • Homemade Corn Beef and Potato Pie Slice
  • Chunky Sweet Yorkshire Piccalilli
  • Spicy Tikka Marinated Chicken & Red Pepper Skewer
  • Cocktail Silver Skin Onions
  • Homemade Double Chocolate Brownie

For those that do decide to travel, passengers are requested to specify any food allergies when making their booking.

For those that have mobility constraints or use a wheelchair, the Wensleydale Railway will endeavour to do their up most to cater for such passengers, as their vintage rolling stock isn’t, at the time of writing, accessible to wheelchairs.

Passengers are also reminded that no dogs are allowed in the dining cars, however, guide dogs are welcome.
