Alstom has secured a contract to supply an additional six SkyTrain Mark V trains to TransLink in Vancouver, British Columbia to supplement the 41 SkyTrain Mark V trains currently under construction.

Each train will consist of five railcars with open-ended walk-through carriages with mostly forward-facing seating and extra space for bicycles, luggage, and leaning pads.

The complete package is being designed and manufactured in Canada and has a total contract value of around €86 million (CA$123 million).

Customers will be provided with improved onboard transit alerts through new digital interior information displays.

People with hearing loss will benefit from strip indicator lights at the doors that flash when doors close, fault warnings are issued, or when emergency brakes are deployed.

To assist customers who are visually impaired, the new trains will have door chimes and on-train announcements.

The new trains will be designed, manufactured, and tested in Canada at Alstom’s facilities in Kingston, Ontariio and at La Pocatière and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville in Quebec.

Alstom is currently in the process of delivering the original order for 41 Mark V trains consisting of 205 railcars to TransLink. The first of trains of that order were delivered to Vancouver in December 2023.

Alstom is the only global rail mobility manufacturer that has production facilities in Canada, and currently was a workforce of 4,600 highly-skilled Canadian employees.
