Yorkshire train operator highlights tranquil locations to support Mental Health Awareness Week

To support Awareness Week, has partnered with the Wildlife Trust to produce a series of videos highlighting some of the region’s most tranquil locations along the railway’s route.

Mental Health Awareness Week is from Monday, 13 to Friday, 19 May.

To bring it to people’s attention, Hull trains partnered with the company’s official partner Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and former ITV Yorkshire Meteorologist Jon Mitchell to produce the videos for posting on the company’s social media platforms.

Each day, a different will be shown that showcases a location that can be easily reached on Hull Trains, including Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, Sprotbrough Flash near Doncaster, and North Cave Wetlands near Brough.

This year, the UK’s Mental Health Foundation has the theme of “Movement: Moving more for our mental health” so the daily posts on Hull Trains’ social media channel will include the hashtag #MomentsForMovement.

According to the Mental Health Charity, Mind, every year one in four people in the UK will experience some kind of mental health issue.

Earlier this year, Hull Trains funded training for 11 employees to attend a course in mental health first aid given by Mental Health First Aid England.

I’m chuffed to be getting out and about this Mental Health Awareness week to both reflect the stunning countryside on our doorsteps but also to encourage people to take a moment to enjoy the sights and sounds we’ll be showing viewers.

I’m excited to hopefully inspire people to go outdoors to enjoy the benefits of fresh air and some gentle walks to reduce stress and boost self-esteem.

Train operators have a good record in helping people overcome mental health problems, with TransPennine Express staff helping out on “Earth Day” last month, and Netball Scotland extending a partnership with Network Rail to get the message to young people about staying safe around the railway.

We all have busy lives and can often forget to take a moment to look after our own mental health. One of the best ways to do that is by connecting with nature. Thanks to our charity partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, we’re well aware of the difference nature can make to peace of mind, positivity and escapism.

“We hope these short films for Mental Health Awareness Week will highlight some of the fantastic nature reserves and other outdoor locations near the Hull Trains route that people can visit to relax, explore and recharge.
