TransPennine Express has released a video explaining what work goes into the creation of a new timetable.

A new timetable is being brought into use from the 2nd June, along with other operators on the entwork

The behind the scenes video gives an insight into what work goes into creating a timetable.

The new timetable, which sees the majority of trains stay the same, will see:

  • 40 services a day between Manchester Airport / Liverpool Lime Street to /
  • Extra services between Manchester and York via and
  • Additional summer weekend services between York and
  • Later services between Liverpool and Manchester

“We’re pleased to be able to offer these extra services for our customers.

“While most of our timetable will stay the same, we urge customers to check before they travel in case there are any slight changes to their services.”

Chris Jackson, Managing Director at TransPennine Express

  1. Lots of extra services around Liverpool, but still have not restored the Monday to Friday 09:20 Liverpool Lime Street service to Penzance, of some 40 YEARS AGO

The trouble is that with the exception of Cross Country, there are no cross country services cutting across various lines served by other rail companies.

Wouldn´t it be delightful, with having the physical rails available, that one could travel any route to anywhere ?

  2. LNER could soon operate to Scarborough from London King’s Cross using Class 800 Bi-mode trains if they were to introduce more extra services since losing the Sunderland service to Grand Central.

  3. That’s the trouble with all trains today, too short through cost cutting, whilst people have to stand having paid a collosal amount for their ticket. Back in the sixties, there were at least 11 coaches on main line trains, with less people using the railway. Everybody commuting nowadays, so obviously trains need more coaches, not half coaches involving the driving trailers.

    1. Hull trains operate between Hull and London Kings Cross. Service is excellent – one of the top in terms of passenger satisfaction ratings. It is NOT Trans Pennine Express!

    2. Do you mean Hull Trains, or TPX trains to Hull?
Hull Trains run 5-car class 802s, which are standard spec 802s. General standard of service is good, although too many trains suffer from excessive hunting, and on-board catering is limited.
TPX trains to Hull are usually 3-car class 185s, even though they *should* all be 6-car sets they rarely are.

    3. Very good, very reliable. Five years ago they were awful but since 2021 they have turned it round. Not susceptible to strikes because they have done a deal with the unions. 2½ hours to Kings Cross – what’s not to like?

  4. Need to improve on 3 car sets from Hull always overcrowded better for me with a pass to go to Doncaster on Northern and catch LNER to Leeds much more civilised than TPE Hull has been promised for years a better service only to be forgotten again

    1. Many transpennine services from Hull are already 6 car Class 185’s. I have been lobying for Transpennine to order extra, electrification ready, 5 carriage Class 802 to cover the Hull route. Thanks to having longer carriages, a 5 carriage 802 has a higher capacity than a 6 carriage Class 185. Electrification is coming to Hull, and out trains need to be ready for that.
