As part of Earth day on April 22nd, a team of four TransPennine Express colleagues spent the day helping staff at Greenhead park in Huddersfield.
Budding green fingered members of TransPennine staff spent the day undertaking various tasks which included digging holes and planting up floral displays for the public and a variety of insects to enjoy later in the summer.
The staff also helped to replace two dry stone walls, both of which needed maintenance, with one at risk of partial collapse. While the park also received a spring clean in the form of litter-picking.
Earth day is a day to recognise the importance of sustainability and of nurturing and protecting the planet, it is also a time to appreciate the beauty of nature and get outdoors while at the same time thinking about your own carbon footprint and what you can do to reduce it.
Going for a walk in nature has been proven to greatly improve mental health and lower stress and anxiety levels.
The work undertaken by the team in Greenhead park shows not just a commitment to creating a suitable planet by encouraging wildlife, but it also shows a commitment towards other people’s well being.
TransPennine Express is taking big strides to make train travel on their region greener and sustainable, by installing electrification across more of its network so they can run a greater number of electric trains, thus ensuring passengers can reduce their carbon footprint by taking their trains.
“I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered and spent the day at Greenhead Park–there has been an amazing transformation in just one day. At TPE, we are committed to creating a better environment for the communities we serve.”
Nicola Martin, Head of Sustainability at TPE,
