As previously announced, Colindale station on the Edgware branch of the Northern line will be closed for 6 months from Friday, 7th June so it can be upgraded, including installing new lifts and staircases.
The station will close until December 2024, when access to the platforms will be temporarily available via the existing ticket hall and the new staircases.
The full reopening of the station is scheduled for autumn 2025.
While the station is closed, customers are advised to use local bus services to travel to Burnt Oak or Hendon Central for Northern line services or to Mill Hill Broadway for Thameslink services.
On weekdays, during peak hours, an additional bus route (NL6) will provide a free service every 15 minutes between Colindale and Hendon Central.
Customers using bus route 186 to travel between Mill Hill Broadway and Hendon Central stations who use contactless or Oyster cards to touch in or out at either of these stations will have their bus fares refunded automatically.
On all other journeys, normal Transport for London and Thameslink fares will apply.
Closure of the station is necessary as it is expected to reach maximum capacity by 2026. The upgrade includes replacing the entrance with a new building with a spacious ticket hall and providing step-free access to the platforms.
Whilst the station is closed, there will also be several closures of the Northern line between Golders Green and Edgware, with the next closure scheduled for Saturday 8th/Sunday, 9th June.
They are necessary because of the track’s proximity to the construction work, including piling, crane operation, and demolition work.
When the Northern line is closed, bus route NL1 will operate between Golders Green station and Canons Park, where connections can be made to Jubilee line services, with no charge for using the service.
The bus will stop near Brent Cross station and at Hendon Central, Colindale, Burnt Oak, Canons Park, and Edgware stations. Southbound services on the Northern line from Golders Green will not be affected.
Work is progressing well on the much-needed major upgrade of Colindale station and is set to transform the journeys of many thousands of our customers, making the station more accessible and welcoming, and ensuring it’s fit to serve this rapidly growing community for many decades to come. I apologise for the inevitable disruption that this upgrade will cause for our customers but we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that, through our detailed travel advice, they can plan ahead and are able to complete their journeys using the public transport network.
