The main changes in the new timetable are:

  • Between Brighton, Worthing and Chichester (one via Littlehampton), services will increase from two to four an hour with a new hourly service from Brighton to Littlehampton and Chichester stopping at all stations.
  • Between Brighton and , the frequency of trains will increase from hourly to half-hourly, with an extra stop at to connect with local bus networks.
  • The hourly Brighton to Portsmouth service planned to be withdrawn will be retained.
  • London to Portsmouth via , services will increase from hourly to half-hourly and extended to Portsmouth Harbour.
  • From Portsmouth to Chichester, the last train will run later.
  • The new services between Brighton and the Hampshire ports will replace the half-hourly Brighton to shuttle.

To accommodate the changes, services on less-popular routes between Southampton and London via Gatwick Airport, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis, and Littlehampton and Portsmouth will require a change at Barnham.

Journey planners have been updated to take account of the new timetable which is now available on the Southern website or at National Rail Enquiries.

The changes in the new timetable follow similar improvements in the new timetable introduced last June.

We’re making these changes to give passengers more trains and many more seats on our more popular routes. Services will be much more frequent, more punctual, faster in some cases, and more reliable right across the network. There will be less waiting for trains as well because we’ll space out the services more evenly.
