Next Sunday, 5 May, the Moorland Railway and Gardens at Staintondale near Scarborough in North Yorkshire will hold its first Charity Day of 2024.
The Charity Days hold a special meaning for the railway’s owners, Alan and Lisa Williams, as proceeds from next Sunday’s event will be donated to Yorkshire Coast Dog Rescue.
Last year, Alan and Lisa’s beautiful fox red Labrador, Pop, passed away after suffering from cancer.
They now have a faithful replacement after one of their friends showed them Peanut on a Facebook page, which they were delighted to offer a home to.
Just four months later, Alan and Lisa lost a second pet dog, Paws, a black Labrador, to old age.
The two sad events made it certain that Yorkshire Coast Dog Rescue would be one of the charities to benefit from this year’s Charity Days.
Alan and Lisa Williams’ Moorland Railway and Gardens Charity Days are held from 2 pm to 5 pm on the first Sunday of each month at Moorland House in Staintondale.
Other charities to benefit this year are:
- Sunday, 2 June – Yorkshire Cancer Research.
- Sunday, 7 July – Alzheimer’s Society.
- Sunday, 4 August – The Rainbow Centre, Scarborough.
- Sunday, 1 September – Martin House Children’s Hospice.
At each Charity Day, as well as a miniature railway, there are cream teas, cakes, tombola, and various stalls.
Several of these charities also benefit from rail tours run by the Branch Line Society, including Martin House Children’s Hospice and Alzheimer’s Society.
