4G and 5G coverage extended to more of London’s Tube network

High-speed mobile coverage has been extended to more stations and Tube lines across Central London, with around 25 per cent of ‘underground’ Tube stations now having coverage.

All stations on the Elizabeth line now have mobile coverage, with 4G being available at Paddington, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf, and Woolwich.

Work to deliver coverage within the tunnelled sections of the line continues, with the first sections between and Liverpool Street expected to be complete within the coming month and the entire line later this year.

4G and 5G mobile coverage is being extended to the Victoria and Piccadilly lines, with further stations and tunnelled sections going live through Central London later this month.

The plan is to cover all the , , London Overground, and the Elizabeth Line by the end of 2025.

The tunnelled section between Euston and Warren Street on the and Covent Garden station on the Piccadilly line now has mobile coverage.

During the coming weeks, the tunnelled sections between Piccadilly Circus and Hyde Park Corner on the Piccadilly line will go live.

Coverage on the Bakerloo line will also start next month, and the southern end of the from Stockwell to Morden is also due to go live soon, and 4G and 5G coverage will go live at Clapham Common station next week.

All four mobile network operators – Three UK, EE, Vodafone, and Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) – are taking part in the rollout which is being delivered in partnership with Boldyn Networks.

It will also host the new Emergency Services Network (ESN) that will enable first responders to have immediate access to life-saving data, images and information in live situations and emergencies on the frontline.

This is yet another step towards ensuring Londoners and visitors can stay connected on our transport network. I promised that customers would be able to access high-speed mobile coverage at all stations and in tunnels, and I’m pleased to see how quickly the team are moving to enable 4G and 5G connectivity.

Now, customers can access the latest travel information, keep in touch with colleagues, friends and family, use social media and stream music at every station along the Elizabeth line. This is just one of the many ways we are supporting Londoners as we build a better, fairer and more prosperous London for everyone.
