Weekday train services between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Leeds will be severely disrupted for the next four weeks.
The work is being carried out as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, a multi-billion pound programme to improve the route between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.
From Monday, 22 April until Friday, 17 May engineers will carry out the following work:
- Install 4,000 metres of new track between Morley and Cottingley station.
- Install troughing to accommodate 3,500 metres of new signal cables.
- Remove five redundant signal bases and undertake work on the platforms at Morley station.
- Perform environmental, ground and bat surveys, and carry out trial pits and coring work in preparation for future work along the route.
TransPennine Express
- Between Huddersfield and Leeds, services will be diverted and will not travel via Dewsbury.
- Between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Leeds, train services will be replaced by rail-replacement bus services.
- Services from Hull will start/terminate at Leeds.
- Services from Saltburn to Manchester Airport will start/terminate at Manchester Victoria.
- Between Huddersfield and Manchester Airport via Stockport, train services will be replaced by rail-replacement bus services.
Northern
- Between Leeds and Wigan via Brighouse, services will be diverted and will not travel via Dewsbury.
- Between Halifax, Brighouse, Dewsbury, and Leeds, train services will be replaced by rail-replacement bus services.
The same train services will also be affected on weekdays from Monday, 24 June until Friday, 19 July.
Between Marsden, Huddersfield and Heaton Lodge
- Services will also be affected on Saturdays and Sundays 18/19 and 25/26 May and 1/2, 8/9, 15/16 June.
Anyone affected by the disruptions should check with nationalrail.co.uk before travelling.
I want to thank passengers in advance for bearing with us while we close parts of the railway between Huddersfield and Leeds to complete these major upgrades.
This important work will ultimately help bring about major improvements for passengers travelling across the North of England, with faster, more reliable and greener services .
Additional work for the Transpennine Route Upgrade will also take place on weekends around this period, affecting trains between Marsden, Huddersfield and Heaton Lodge.

The major upgrade works that will be done between Huddersfield and Leeds over this four-week period are essential for the delivery of more reliable services for our customers.
We will be running an amended timetable on our North route while these improvement works are being carried out, diverting trains between Huddersfield and Leeds.
Rail replacement buses will also be in place to keep customers on the move for more local journeys. We d like to advise customers to check before they travel.

Morning, David Wilson here, I noticed that the other part of the transpennine express is not mentioned.That is the Scarborough Malton York service to Leeds will that be a through train to Leeds and Manchester, instead of the change at York . This is a great inconvenience to all especially the disabled, I had 9 minutes to hobble around the station lift unavailable.Our Scarborough train terminated in a siding at York and the Leeds was at the far end of of platform 5,it couldn’t be further if you had tried .Are doing this on purpose to annoy us.I remember when every train went from Scarborough to Manchester airport without any complaints apart from another carriage would be helpful . Then someone said it was for our convenience to change at York and Middlesbrough would be the airport train then Redcar and now saltburn Yes passengers will stop using the line when you treat us so badly.yours faithfully David Wilson retired
