Damage to overhead power lines is causing delays and cancellations on the West Coast Main Line today (Monday 29th April)

The overhead cables near Coppull in Lancashire came down earlier today and means that trains are unable to run between Wigan North Western and Preston

Work is underway to get the line reopened as soon as possible, with Network Rail engineers fixing the 25,000-volt cables.

Some trains are cancelled, while others are being diverted via Manchester Piccadilly.

Passengers should check www.nationalrail.co.uk for the latest info, with disruption expected for the rest of the day.

We have specialist repair teams on site working as fast as they can to fix the cables and restore power so trains can safely run again through the area.
