Opened in 1999, Grosmont Crossing Club is a much loved, bustling social hub of the local community and of members from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Located on Front Street, the pub has witnessed and heard it all, with people discussing ideas and schemes, planning journeys, and sharing and reminiscing about countless stories, from past events and major celebrations to turns on the footplate, often accompanied by the sound of laughter.
Friendships and relationships have been forged here, weddings and new births have been celebrated here, along with the passing and remembering of old friends.
Set up by a group of volunteer railwaymen from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and a few locals at Grosmont, from small beginnings the pub has become everything they hoped it would become, by bringing everyone to share in a variety of wines, beers and spirits and to socialise with family, friends and neighbours.
As part of the celebrations a special commemorative lager has been brewed, while Rapido Trains UK have made a limited edition of OO gauge models of 5 plank wagons in blue, to match the exterior of the pub, with the clubs logo on the sides. The wagons are on sale for £32.95 each.
As they look forward to the future, unity is an assurance from the locals, who will no doubt write the next chapter and continue the Crossing Club’s legacy to ensure that the next major milestone will be the Clubs Golden anniversary in 25 years’ time.
