The railway line between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog is expected to reopen on Saturday 13th April after emergency repairs.
The line was forced to closed on Tuesday this week (9th April 2024) after flooding washed away ballast near Dolgarrog station.
Engineers are now using rail-road vehicles to install 200 tones of new ballast, with work expected to be completed in time for trains to resume on Saturday morning.
Until then, rail replacement buses will replace trains, calling at Glan Conwy, Tal-y-Cafn, Dolgarrog, North Llanrwst, Llanrwst, Betws-y-Coed, Pont-y-Pant, Dolwyddelan, Roman Bridge and Blaenau Ffestiniog.
“We’re sorry to passengers affected by the closure of the Conwy Valley Line.
“Our teams are on site and working to get the line opened as soon as possible. We advise passengers to check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk.”

Seriously, since 2019 how many times has the Conwy Valley Line flooded
Again? I thought they had addressed resilience on this line not that long ago
Indeed. Maybe they have addressed it elsewhere but the image above appears (and appearances can be deceptive) to show a flat area (therefore potentially soggy) with only a narrow footing of ballast – narrow for the conditions.
