Network Rail is urging passengers between New Mills Central and Manchester Piccadilly to check before travelling as emergency embankment work takes place.
The repair work is taking place at two locations near New Mills Central, following cracks in the land near to the railway line.
A speed restriction was originally put in place, however, more strict measures are now required.
One track of the line is closed to trains with changes to services in the New Mills area.
- Manchester Piccadilly – Sheffield trains are operating via Stockport and will call at all stations between Chinley and Dore and Totley
- Manchester Piccadilly – New Mills Central trains are operating using the single line between Marple and New Mills Central
“I’d advise passengers to check before they travel between New Mills Central and Manchester Piccadilly stations, as urgent repairs to the embankments in the Hague Fold area take place.
“I’m very sorry for any disruption caused to your journeys. We hope to reopen both lines safely as soon as possible.”
Chris Pye, Network Rail’s North West route infrastructure director
“We join Network Rail in apologising to customers for the disruption caused whilst these essential infrastructure repairs are carried out. Customers should check before they travel in case they need to allow extra time for their journey.”
Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern
